Movie Highlight – The Other Guys  (August 6, 2010)

• NYC detective Allen Gamble is more comfortable pushing pencils than busting bad guys.  A meticulous forensic accountant, his numbers are never off.  Detective Terry Hoitz is Gamble’s reluctant partner.  Try as Detective Hoitz might to get back on the streets, an embarrassing encounter with Derek Jeter has left a sizable black mark on his permanent record.  Detectives Danson and Highsmith are the complete opposites of Gamble and Hoitz: unwaveringly confident, they always get their man, and they do it with style to spare.  When the time comes for Gamble and Hoitz to prove their mettle and save the day, their incompetence becomes the stuff of legend.

Movie Highlight – Inglorious Basterds  (August 21, 2009)

• In Nazi-occupied France during WW II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as the “The Basterds” are chose specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis.  The Basterds soon cross paths with a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by the soldiers.

Retro Review! – Anatomy of a Murder

• Starring James Stewart, Lee Remick, Ben Gazzara, Arthur O’Connell, George C. Scott, Murray Hamilton, Kathryn Grant, Eve Arden
• Synopsis: Paul Biegler is a small town lawyer who until recently had been the local prosecutor and given a lack of clients, he spends a lot of time fishing.  When a murder takes place in a trailer park on the outskirts of town, he is asked to defend Lt. Frederick Manion who admits to having killed Barney Quill, a local bar owner who allegedly raped his wife.  He now claims temporary insanity.  The case is both prominent, with the State’s Deputy Attorney General personally prosecuting the case and lurid, given the rape and the sexual anture of much of the testimony.  Biegler and his friend Parnell McCarthy, now a bit the worse for wear and given to drink, must find a way to convince the jury when they have little or no evidence to support their case.
